Thanks to its natural structure, excellent warmth retention, and long-lasting durability, it is among the most preferred souvenirs by visitors to Siirt. It is especially chosen as a meaningful and lasting gift for distinguished guests.

Natural and Handcrafted

Siirt blankets are made from pure mohair obtained from Angora (tiftik) goats. The climate and natural conditions of Siirt are highly suitable for raising these goats. On average, 1–2 kg of mohair can be obtained from a single goat annually.

The production process relies entirely on handcraftsmanship and includes:

  1. Washing the mohair
  2. Combing it
  3. Hand-twisting it into yarn

The prepared yarns are then carefully woven on traditional handlooms. Due to this labor-intensive process, only one single-size blanket can be produced per loom per day.

Colors and Patterns

Siirt blankets are produced in:

  1. Black
  2. White
  3. Camel hair color
  4. Brown and grey tones

The traditional patterns and motifs woven into each blanket make every piece unique and distinctive.

Exceptional Warmth and Long-Lasting Use

Thanks to the natural structure of mohair fibers, Siirt blankets provide superior thermal insulation. They help maintain body heat during cold winter days while offering a soft and comfortable texture. With proper care, these rare handwoven blankets can last 30 to 50 years.

Cleaning and Care

To ensure the longevity of a Siirt blanket, the following care instructions are recommended:

  1. Machine washable at 30°C, without spinning.
  2. Large-sized blankets can be washed by hand.
  3. After washing, air-drying by hanging is recommended.
